Worship

Sunday Worship services are offered at 8:30 and 10:45 am.

The 8:30 service is informal, offering early risers an intimate setting for worship, prayer, communion and song.

The 10:45 service (following the 9:30 hour for Christian Education) is a more formal worship of music, word, and sacrament enhanced by an outstanding choir and organ.

During July and August, there is one service at 9:30 am, followed by a time of fellowship.

Communion is served on the first, third and fifth Sunday of each month (at the 10:45 service), alternating between traditional Presbyterian communion, in which worshipers are served in the pews, and communion by intinction, in which worshipers come forward and immerse the bread in a communal cup.

A short service of prayers for wholeness and healing is provided on a regular basis in the chapel adjacent to the sanctuary following the 10:45 service.

A fellowship hour follows the 10:45 service, in which coffee, tea, juice and cookies are served.

Special activities are often scheduled during the fellowship hour: drama by student groups, lectures, lunches, musical performances, group and congregational meetings.

Periodically, we join with other FOCUS congregations for joint worship services, with guest preachers, massed choirs and collective fellowship. Services rotate from church to church. Check this month's newsletter or calendar for scheduling information.

First Presbyterian services are recorded directly to compact disc (CD). This serves shut-ins and visitors. Miss a service, or want to revisit it? Contact the Church Office for a copy.
