IT TAKES THE CAKE
For ten years, First Presbyterian has been a More Light congregation
- in recognition of its unequivocal welcome to all of God's children.
The mission of More Light Presbyterians is to work for the
full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT)
people of faith in the life, ministry, and witness of the
Presbyterian Church (USA).

In 1994, after more than a decade of discernment led by the
Peacemaking Committee and interested members of our church, the
Session appointed a 14-member Committee for Dialogue on Sexuality.
Then in 1995 the Session adopted a short "Statement of
Inclusiveness", which was included on the cover of Sunday
worship bulletins. |

Doctors in the House
Freda Gardner, Joe Shook and Bob Lamar shared in the quiet
contentment of open hearts and open doors. |

We became a More Light church in 1996. SInce that time we've
been welcoming AND advocating. After all, we believe in ONE church,
and ONE baptism.

reason that birthday cake resembles a welcome mat.

Raising Hel-ium
It was tempting, but no one sang happy birthday under the influence
of that most amusing, inert gas. |

The Icing on the Cake
More Light Committee member Charlie Kite fine-tunes the frosting on a
very happy birthday cake.

Proud Moment
Sue Haney reflects on a decade of compassion and collaboration -
eagerly awaiting the logical conclusion to Christ's message - He came
to redeem us all (no litmus test). And each and every Christian
should have a chance to serve the Church and the world. Peace and
justice are no easy feat.
