Advent Vespers - Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005
Come celebrate the anticipation of the Christ Child on the first
Sunday in the hyperactive month of December. Feel the joy before
getting bogfged down in shopping, egg nog and mandatory festivity.
The Chancel Choir, VIctor Klimash (conductor) and Nancy
Frank (organist) invite you to enjoy three timely works:
Benjamin Britten's A Ceremony of Carols was originally written
for a chorus of treble voices, two soloists and harp. This
multi-movement work is a contemporary setting of old English carol
texts. The first and last movements are taken from the Latin
responsory for Christmas day, Hodie Christus natus est. The
harp Interlude is also based on this chant.
The Chancel Choir's soloists for this work will be soprano Deborah
Rocco and alto Fiona Lewis, joined by harpist Karlinda Caldicott.

Other music heard during the Vespers Service will include a new
arrangement of a 17th Century German carol Warum sollt ich mich
denn grämen, Dr. Klimash's rendition All My heart this
night rejoices is arranged for chorus and harp
An original composition by Victor Klimash - written especially for
The Chancel Choir, O Magnum Mysterium will premiere at the
Advent Vespers Service. It is an original setting of the famous
medieval Latin text depicting the Christ Child in the manger. It
concludes with an Alleluia based on the original thematic material. |
